From public relations to fashion designer. While that course may not be the first one that comes to mind, for Corina Biton, it made perfect sense when the economy started to go downhill. Biton and her friend Lori Cubel created their own company called Bloq UV.
The company markets active wear that they say blocks 97 percent of the sun's ultraviolet rays. The idea for Bloq UV came from their daily exercise routine.
"I finally had time to run on the beach and while I was running, I was noticing I had white spots on my arms," Corina said. So, Corina starting looking for activewear that had sun protection, but all she was able to find were mix and match pieces that weren't productive.
That's when she and Lori began pooling their money to create a business they believed in. "We sold everything we own…artwork, jewelry, but it's been a rewarding experience," Corina said.
All of the clothes have been through chemical testing and the two women wanted the clothes to work for everyone. Every top and bottom has a place for both money and iPods and of course, the always handy Blackberry and iPhone.
"There's no reason why you have to have a credit card in your undies, blackberries in bra, now they are all in one place and you're ready to go.
The women have seen quite a success so far in their new clothing line. "We launched in April, sold out in 4 days, sold out again, it's been very exciting," Lori Cubel said.
